Earlier this spring I started my Halloween costume. This is the first shirt for the pairs costume that is my goal.
Sigils
My logo is a sigil. It is a blessing and a promise to those who encounter it in the world. There are two versions of it. One which contains a greeting and promise to create, and care for this world as it binds us to be always mindful of our time here. The other invites participation. This signature, below, with its open boundary is placed on my signed art work, and symbolises the interconnected nature of artist and viewer. I think each of us brings something to an artwork in experiencing that I simply cannot create on my own.
Knitted Lace Blouse Pattern #168- notes on a vintage knit
Cast on after much pattern scrolling. This is the second in an attempt to do something like batch sewing with sweater seaming. Knit a couple, seam a couple and have more instant FOs!
Ruffles on the sleeves will definitely not be happening for mine though. That is too much ruffle for me.
So far this sweater is an easy 6 row lace repeat, but the pattern is challenging to follow because it is in vintage terms and written long form without charts. I’ve created a tracking page for it, similar to that I created for Mame.
Update April 3, 2022
I found myself questioning something that felt off as I was making fast progress, but I couldn’t pin point what it was. The stitch counting inevitably happened and I have discovered I need to frog back to the ribbing because I miscounted all of the times I counted after placing markers. The centre column was off by ten stitches. not exactly a tiny mistake I can leave and live with.
This set back has affirmed that I do like this sweater enough to restart the front. For now it is waiting to be ripped back along with the pieces of the name sweater which need to be blocked.
Basic Witch Beanie Review
The title says a lot about what this is, it’s a pointy hat. I’ve made mine in black as a gift for my partner’s colleague who often gifts him outlandish ties from her exploits in thrift shops. They make us both laugh, so when he requested this hat I immediately bought yarn.
The hat is the single later version of the pattern, which generously includes instructions for a two layer hat and a single layer hat. Mine is top down and almost completely finished. I still need to bind off with a sewn bind off so this project is with the sweater pieces awaiting that day.
Update: April 3, 2022
The sewn bind off is complete and the hat is adorably pointy. I want one for myself as well!
Of course even though it’s a gift I did try it on, just quickly for FO pics and to check that it is not miniature on an adult sized head. It is not. The ribbing is very stretchy and the bound off edge is up to that task.
About those sweater pieces I mentioned… they are still on the desk. Hats don’t need blocking- which feels like an Herculean task at the moment. Oh well! Here we are!
Mame Pull-over: notes on a vintage knit
So far this pattern is really easy and has a soothing amount of ribbing. I love the rhythm of knitting in k1,p1.
The construction is a basic two piece sweater with short dolman sleeves. I have finished the front and finished the ribbing on the back piece so far. It goes by quickly with the increases placed at the edges of the piece. I would say it looks very tidy that way and it is the method I prefer for placing mirrored increases.
The sweater will be two tone with hopefully a colour block top that will be reversible to make it possible to have different looks with the same garment.
Updates March 20, 2022
I’ve finished both pieces and they are languishing on a desk. I’ve been ignoring them. Or saving them for batch sewing with the other sweater I started for spring? Yea. That.
